THE CANDID

You’ll love The Candid if you listen to: Pinegrove, Adam Melchor, Young The Giant, Noah Gunderson, Colony House, NPR’s News Trivia Radio Show Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me!

If you’ve ever had one of those fuzzy nights out that was more true than fun, you’ll find a lot to like about The Candid’s “I’ll Remember.” This track captures the spirit of rock n’ roll better than anything I’ve heard in recent months.
— Ear to the Ground Music

The Candid is a band that derives its creative vision from its own name, merging a matter-of-fact storytelling style more often found in folk music with the hooks and melodies you might associate with pop or rock and roll. With origins in Nashville, Tennessee, The Candid consists of singer-songwriter Delaney Willson and drummer Mason Edwards. And while they would admit they aren’t trying to reinvent the wheel musically, they also don’t quite fit the spokes that we’re used to coasting along on. Even when honing in nuanced topics like imposter syndrome, hypocrisy, and navigating a new marriage, The Candid suckers the audience into cathartic sing-along choruses, drawing on a wide range of influences from Pinegrove and Noah Gundersen to The Band Camino and The 1975.

Following up on their 2021 self-produced bedroom rock album, “Pictures On Refrigerators,” The Candid is set to release a series of singles beginning in April, 2024, marking their first new music in over 3 years. Not losing sight of the raw lyrical style that the band was formed on, the new music features a refined approach to the production. Guitars, synths, booming drum fills and soaring harmonies all work together to highlight the songs’ most poignant moments. The lead single “Alright OK!” is an anthem that sees an increasingly self-aware protagonist realizing that despite their best efforts to deny it, the indisputable love of his life is here and here to stay.

“We’re so excited to share this new music -not only through the internet, but from the stage too. It’s been incredibly life-affirming to hear how people have related to these new songs in various ways and to be reminded that music takes on a life of it’s own once it passes through the filter of someone listening.”  - singer-songwriter Delaney Willson

“It feels special to pursue a dream with a best friend. And as new listeners find our band, we want to make sure they know how important it is to us that they’re letting our music into their lives. Whether they connect with the deep cuts or just want to dance along to the bangers, we’re excited for more people to really feel this music with us.” - drummer Mason Edwards

When they’re not working on music, you can probably catch Delaney taking on endless home-improvement projects or people watching at his favorite coffee shops. Mason opts to provide the energy rather than consume it, spending his time producing dance music and spreading infectious grooves around town as a DJ.
